A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth—covering the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and/or to improve its appearance.
A dental crown serves following important functions.
- to protect and hold together weak tooth such as tooth with significant decay , cracked tooth, broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
-to cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left
-to hold a DENTAL BRIDGE in place
-to support and strengthen the root canal treated tooth
-to cover a dental implant
             Â
- to improve the aesthetics of your smile(cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth)
Preparing a tooth for a dental crown usually involves two separate visits. During the first visit, Dr.Sooparb will take an x-ray to examine the extent of decay or damage. Your tooth then will be filed down to allow the space for the crown. Once the preparation is established ,a mold of the tooth is taken. This impression is used to make the dental crowns at the lab. During that time, you will have a temporary crown. These crowns are usually made of plastic and are made in the office on the day of your visit.
            Â
Once your dental crowns are fabricated, a return visit to Dr.Sooparb is needed to place the dental crowns. Dr.Sooparb will remove the temporary crown and test your permanent custom fabricated one. Sometimes crowns need additional polishing or glaze or some other adjustment before they are placed. Dr.Sooparb always takes great care of his patients. Dental crowns fitted by Dr.Sooparb are natural- looking, permanent and long-lasting.
